The little book—if you can call it a book — was in the box with another order. It was a free gift from Crossway. But it should not be overlooked, regardless of how it comes. This simple little booklet is Kevin DeYoung’s assault on faddish, flash-in-the-pan attempts to reach the next generation with gimmicks or moralism. How do we best grab the attention of our children and the young people in our ministries? There’s a way that has a chance of leading to a gospel fruit, and there’s a way that will mean our poor attempts become illustrations of disaster in the future. There’s a way that Jesus prescribed and has been doing good for two-thousand years, and there’s the next silly fad. DeYoung argues for a simple way that doesn’t require you know when the last generation ended and when the next generation started. It’s not difficult, but it is faithful.
